Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) is a treatment option for hormone imbalances and/or for restoration. Treatment may be indicated for symptoms of female menopause and the male equivalent, andropause. Commonly prescribed are estrogen, progesterone and testosterone in a variety of dosage forms and doses specific to the individual needs of the patient.

Infants and children sometimes have difficulty taking commercially manufactured drug forms. Many children have trouble swallowing tablets or capsules; some don’t like the taste of liquid medications. A physician, working in partnership with a compounding pharmacist can prescribe alternative dosage forms. This might include medication prepared in a rapidly dissolving tablet, a gummy bear, lollipop, popsicle, infant pacifier or a transdermal gel applied to the skin.

Have you ever had trouble giving medicine to your pet? Compounding can help! Animals come in a variety of species and sizes—they also have taste preferences. Commercially available drugs may not be available in the strength or flavor that your pet needs.

Whether it is acute pain from an operation or injury, or chronic pain from fibromyalgia, migraine headaches, nerve pain, muscle pain, or arthritis, pain can be debilitating and adversely affect a person’s quality of life. Pharmacy compounding can be an effective alternative to address side effects of medications and to decrease the actual number of medications to be taken.

Care for individuals at the end of life centers around providing comfort and pain relief while preserving dignity in final days. Compounding pharmacy can help with the management of common symptoms experienced including pain, nausea/vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, bedsores, and anxiety.

The “Specialty” of compounding pharmacy means individualized and customized. Many patients use products manufactured by pharmaceutical companies, but sometimes a patient needs a different strength, a different dosage form, a different combination, a different flavor, or a drug no longer manufactured. Your physician can write a compound prescription tailored your needs, if experiencing problems related to drug therapy.

Some people are allergic or sensitive to components of mass produced medications. Because a compounded prescription begins with the drug in chemical form and is mixed for a specific person, the additional fillers and colors can be substituted or eliminated.

Skin care encompasses a wide variety of treatments ranging from dry skin, sun protection, acne, and signs of aging such as wrinkles and dark spots. A compounding pharmacist can work with a physician to create customized preparations for his/her patients.

Just as there are a variety of sports and fitness activities, there are a variety of problems that can be helped via compounding pharmacy. Topical pain gels for sprains, aches and muscle cramps as well as bandages for blisters, lip balms, anti-fungal preparations, and vitamin/ mineral replacement formulas can help one stay “in the game”.

Compounding for dentists covers antibiotics, topical anesthetics, dry socket mixtures, root canal paste, and treatments for dry mouth, to name a few. Dosage forms such as lip balms, mouthwashes, popsicles and lollipops can be used to apply medicine where it is most effective.

Calluses, foot odor and wetness, warts, wounds, toenail fungal infections, foot pain… compounding pharmacy provides another set of options for treatments of these conditions.

Western Colorado Compounding Pharmacy carries vitamins, supplements and nutritional products of pharmaceutical quality. Commonly prescribed medications may cause vitamin depletion; a number of people could benefit from supplements. A physician and pharmacist can assist patients in choosing products according to their needs and interest.

Using ZRT Laboratory Testing Kits provides the convenience and accuracy needed for all testing from estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, DHEAS to Thyroid and insulin testing.
The ZRT kits include saliva, blood spot, saliva/blood spot combo, serum and urine.
